Workflow Instance

A Workflow Instance refers to single occurance of a Workflow Scenario, which typically results in the creation or modification of a single Parent Business Partner in SAP, with the option of also creating related "child" partner. For example, creating a Sold-to Customer with multiple Ship-to locations.

Each Workflow Instance encompasses and end-to-end process that follows a discrete Path through a set of Steps, with each step corresponding to a Task that is assigned to an individual or a group.

A Workflow Instance will always be assigned one of the statuses below:

  • Running: The Workflow Instance is in process, and typically, there is a at least one open Task.
  • Completed: The Workflow Instance has finished running and there are no more open Tasks.
  • Erroneous: There is a technical error with the workflow which requires the attention of an IT Administrator.
  • Suspended: The Workflow Instance has been paused. There are still pending actions, but can't be processed at the time.
  • Canceled: "Closed" status, the Workflow Istnance has been manually finalize without a successful completion.
